The Houston Museum district is one of the cultural touchstones of the city. Here you’ll find delicious food, great museums to explore, and other adventures waiting for you in the inner loop near the Medical Center. So, where should you go first?

The Delectable Dining

There are so many tasty spots to try in this area, that you’ll want to get your stretchy pants stat. First try Lucille’s, an award-winning Southern-inspired restaurant known for their out of this world chicken and waffles. Check out MF Sushi for modern Japanese dishes and an impressive drink menu. Monarch, located inside Hotel Zaza, is great for a night out when you’re looking to splurge. For Dry January fans, they also have good mocktails on the menu like their Pineapple Nojito.

The Museums To Explore

Before you try to power through all 20 museums in one day, check out this list and then make a plan. Some of these museums have free admission days. Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, boasts stunning exhibits, two movie theaters, and is free every Thursday and open late. Houston Museum of Natural Science, where you’ll find tons of exhibits, a butterfly museum, and a planetarium, is also free every Tuesday evening. Children’s Museum Houston offers a variety of family-friendly activities and is also free every Thursday night. At the Holocaust Museum, check out their new exhibition that features the art and history of Black Americans from1595 to the present, running until June.

The Other Adventures

Besides delicious food and cultural activities, you’ll want to explore the Houston Zoo. The Zoo is normally packed during the spring and summer months, so you’ll avoid large crowds if you visit now. At the Zoo, wander through exhibits showing off giraffes, elephants, reptiles, birds, and other animals. You can also head to Hermann Park, and go for a run, walk, or bike ride on one of their trails. There’s also something magical about strolling through Centennial Gardens on a sunny day. If your New Year’s resolution was to walk more, then meander through the stunning three-mile Rice trail, on Rice University’s campus.
