There are lots of reasons to love Galveston, and one of them is the Historic Strand District. Designated a National Historic Landmark in the 1970s for its Victorian architecture, this five-block district is chock-full of things to see and do, as well as some fabulous dining options.

While you’re surrounded by buildings from another era, why not get a horse-and-carriage ride for an even more immersive experience? Mosey along Strand Street and take in the architecture, catch a show at the Grand 1894 Opera House, and explore the Galveston Historic Seaport and the 1877 Tall Ship Elissa.

🦞 Grab a Bite
With its proximity to the wharf, it’s no surprise that the seafood restaurants in the Strand are top notch. Check out Katie’s Seafood House, which specializes in boat-to-table service for the very freshest dishes. The Black Pearl Oyster Bar is another great option, with fast service and large portions. But it’s not just the seafood that’s good: Hearsay on the Strand offers an array of American eats and craft cocktails with an atmosphere they call “chic antique,” and Yaga’s Cafe is a local favorite, with an outdoor patio and weekend live entertainment.
