Shout-out to Hey Houston reader Anita who told me to not forget Pearland on our neighborhood tour. Pearland, a city south of Houston, has plenty of charming food, outdoor activities, and entertainment to keep you busy. Let’s take a look!
Let’s Get Our Grub On
You can’t take a trip to Pearland without stopping by Killen’s, the iconic barbecue spot, and ordering their moist brisket, pulled pork, or barbecue chicken. Celebrate Gringo’s Mexican Kitchen 30th anniversary with a cadillac margarita. Then, head to Santa Barbara Italian Cafe for Italian food with Croatia and French influences. Finally, stop by Super Bowl Asian Cuisine and Tea House for their curry coconut shrimp or tonkotsu ramen. Of course, I couldn’t list all the food places, so check out this list of favorites from a Pearland resident.
Let’s Go Outside
Bird lovers, venture over to John Hargrove Environmental Complex or Shadow Creek Ranch Nature Trail for bird-watching fun. Throughout the year, you’ll see woodpeckers, red-shouldered hawks, and in the spring and fall, you’ll spot songbirds and warblers. At Pearland BMX, riders range from as young as three-years-old to older adults. If you enjoy a good game of disc golf, find it at Centennial Park and Shadow Creek Ranch.
Let’s Play
Hey Houston reader Anita recommends shopping at BLCK Market, featuring 25 Black-owned brands, in Pearland Town Center. Catch upcoming shows “Potato Gumbo” and “Beauty and the Beast” at Pearl Theater. Finally, grab a beer from Vallensons' Brewing Company.
