I spent most of high school and summers home from college traipsing around the Energy Corridor. Since it’s the place I grew up, it reminds me of home. It also is home to gorgeous parks and scrumptious eats. Here are some of my favorite spots.

The Parks

Terry Hershey Park, which stretches for about 10 miles from Barker Dam to the Sam Houston Tollway, is one of my Houston oases. Whenever I walk the trail, I’m always in awe of the massive and beautiful green trees. It’s also perfect for dog walks or bike rides. If you’re looking for a smaller park, head to nearby Ray Miller, which boasts a perfect playground for children and gazebos for countless family gatherings.

Mexican Favorite

La Hacienda on Memorial Drive has to be one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Houston, hands down. It’s been around since the 1970s, so a lot of families have been coming to it for years. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, but I’ll personally vouch for their enchiladas and quesadillas. Oh, and no meal there is complete without a margarita.

Where to Chill

If you’re looking for a little respite in your day, check out La Madeleine, the iconic French-inspired chain with Dallas roots. If I’m there, I’m definitely having their infamous tomato basil soup or a chicken caesar sandwich. You can also drive further down on Eldridge Parkway and stop by Yogurt Yo!, which is one of my go-to places for frozen yogurt.
