For more than 50 years, the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center has remained a fixture in the city. It provides programming, events, and a respite away from the hustle and bustle of Houston for more than 600,000 people yearly. Here’s our guide to the best Arboretum events happening this spring.
Let’s Go On A Hike
You’ll likely have to visit this 155-acre nature center several times to enjoy all it offers. If you love hiking, plan a trek through one of their nature trails, such as the savanna, wetland, woodland, or native prairie habitats. While on your hike, listen to a curated playlist that compliments the hike’s ecosystem and features. If you’re a fan of this newsletter’s Urban Almanac section, then you likely read this guide experiencing the beautiful daisies you’ll find as you meander through the Arboretum (give it a read if you haven’t!).
Let’s Learn Something New
For adults, choose from photography, food and drink, gardening, or nature and wildlife classes. Your little ones can enjoy weeklong nature camps and other outdoor programs. There are tons of fun programs for the whole family, such as the owl prowl on May 18.
Let’s Go On A Spring Adventure
On Saturday, May 4, learn how to build your backyard wildlife garden. Enjoy a sunset sip and stroll with a glass of wine or beer from Saint Arnold on Friday, May 10. Grab your little ones for Tyke Hikes, where you can enjoy a beautiful hike, storytime, and a nature activity on select Monday mornings. In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, spend time at the Arboretum’s Outdoor Wellness Day on Saturday, May 18.
