If I was fresh off a competition at the Olympics, of course my first stop would be the Houston food scene. So, which restaurant did Olympic champion Simone Biles grab takeout from as one of her first meals? Also, the Michelin Guide is coming to Houston, but how do Houston chefs feel about the news?
🍽️ What Do Houston Chefs Think About the Michelin Guide?
Some Houston chefs are excited, but others are cautious about the Michelin Guide coming to the city. Some think it will boost tourism and draw excited guests to Houston restaurants. However, others in the industry wonder how the competition to get placed in the guide will affect the camaraderie among Houston eateries, and if some will become too focused on getting those Michelin stars. 😋 Simone Biles’ First Houston Meal After Olympics?
After returning from her triumphant Olympics run in Paris, Simone Biles decided to grab one of her first meals at Midtown’s Stick Talk Cajun - Hibachi in Houston. Her husband, Jonathan Owens, picked up to-go orders that included chicken fried rice with vegetables and spicy garlic butter, and an extra side of noodles. The owners of the restaurant said, “Maybe we’ll have to name a dish after her.” [Eater Houston]
🦪 Oyster Hut Will Get Permanent Location
Lynn Price plans to open the Oyster Hut’s first brick and mortar location in Louise, Texas, about 45 minutes outside of Houston. The new restaurant will feature plenty of parking, full kitchen, three bars, and a stage for entertainment. Price has been embroiled in controversy since he was ousted from his former Third Ward business Turkey Leg Hut that he founded with his estranged wife Nakia Holmes. [Houston Chronicle 🔒]
🥧 Where To Grab Your Next Pie Slice
Proud Pie, a beloved dessert shop in Katy closed over the summer, but now you can find their delicious pies sold at Dish Society locations across Houston. Dish Society is offering their Pier House Key Lime or State Fair Caramel Apple, and more selections are on the way.
Also, here are my predictions on which Houston restaurants will make the coveted Michelin Guide 🍽️
