Houston is a foodie’s dream destination, but what if you’re following a vegan diet? You might be surprised to know that our city’s options for delicious vegan dishes are endless. Grab your stretchy pants and your wallet because you’ll want to visit one of these places.
The Best Brunch
I discovered Mo’ Better Brews, located in the Museum District, while working on a freelance story about the owners and the rise of Black-owned vegan restaurants. Even though I’m not vegan, the food was so tasty here — they almost convinced me to change my food lifestyle. My tip: Try their hot honey ‘shrooms and grits and truffle mac ‘n cheese. I’m still dreaming about it!
The Best Mexican Food
Veegos, an eatery in Westchase, serves up tasty plant-based Mexican dishes to rave reviews. Try their jackfruit flautas made with lettuce, cashew sour cream, vegan shredded cheese and your choice of salsa or their pozole, made with their Corn hominy stew with sliced baby bella mushrooms
The Best Anytime Spot
If you’re looking for a quick bite for lunch or dinner, then stop by Trendy Vegan on Richmond Avenue. They offer a variety of dishes that are good at any point in the day, including their veggie lo mein, Singapore Noodle, and their Thai Curry with tempeh.
The Best Soul Food
Soul Food Vegan in Third Ward was another discovery I made on my vegan food story journey. If you’re looking for soul food that’s delicious and fits your dietary restrictions, then this is the place for you. I highly recommend the boudin balls, collard greens, and jambalaya.
