Are you slowly trying to make your way out of the sugar and carb coma from the holidays? Houston has some great restaurants with healthy options that can help you stay on track with your New Year goals. Below are some suggestions from our recent podcast episode and also from my own palate!
The Best Salads
Chef Rafael Nasr from Craft Pita, said when he’s not in the mood to eat from his own restaurant, he heads over to Leaf & Grain to devour their delicious Mexican salad. Host Raheel Ramzanali relies on the drive-thru chain Salad and Go, to enjoy made-to-order salads, breakfast burritos, and tasty wraps.
The Best Sandwiches
Chef Nasr also touts Craft Pita’s sandwiches, all under 650 calories, as a great option to stay healthy. He recommends trying the chicken, veggie, falafel, or beef pita. For me, there’s no sandwich like the crunchy chicken sandwich from Local Foods. This restaurant has become a Houston staple and is known for using locally sourced ingredients to make their delicious dishes.
The Most Overlooked Restaurant
Raheel enjoys heading to Phoenicia, a local grocery store with a restaurant celebrating their 40th anniversary in the city, and consuming their shawarma wraps. Chef Nasr thinks people should learn more about Mo’ Better Brews, a vegan restaurant in the Museum District. I agree with the chef because I’m still thinking about their mind-blowing chik'n fried shrooms and waffles.
