March in Houston means spring is on the horizon, the rodeo is in full swing, and tons of fun activities to dive into. From a festival with hip-hop and food to new attractions at the rodeo, there’s lots of excitement around the city. Let’s get into it!
The Best Festivals for March
We experience some of our best weather in March, so it’s the perfect time to get outside and enjoy outdoor festivals! City Cast Houston Host Raheel Ramzanali loves attending the International Art & Kite Festival every year with his family. Besides the fun kite-flying competition, this festival celebrates Sugar Land’s diversity through art, music, dancing, and food. Grab your little ones for Little BIPOC Book Fest at Discovery Green, an event dedicated to amplifying authors of color and co-founded by yours truly. Your little ones can grab free books from Harris County Public Library’s Curiosity Cruiser, listen to storytime, and shop from a diverse book fair. For the food lovers and hip-hop music fans, you don’t want to miss OMG Food Fest. This event features tons of delicious food vendors and some of the city’s best DJ and bands playing your hip-hop and rap favorites. Finally, before March wraps, head to the Bayou City Art Festival, where you can take in stunning artwork from more than 300 artists in downtown Houston.
The Best New Attractions at Houston Rodeo
Yee-haw! It’s rodeo time in Houston, and we’re ready! So, what’s new at the rodeo this year? For those looking for a thrill, check out a new high-spinning rollercoaster, Heidi, which celebrates Texas’ German heritage. The whole crew can enjoy Dragon Family Coaster, a ride perfect for kids and parents. A new 100-foot mural created by Made X Chilly debuts today to kick-off rodeo festivities. You can check it out near the Naomi entrance in NRG Park where kids take part in Mutton Bustin’. And, of course, you gotta try some of the new food attractions, including Taco Love’s Hippie Cowboy Street Tacos and Palmer’s Hot Chicken’s catfish and shrimp plates. Yum yum!
Restaurants That Feel Like Spring
Looking for City Cast Houston Executive Producer Laura Isensee? You’ll find her basking in the warm weather on Coltivare’s patio and eating a spring salad with golden beets, goat cheese, radish and pistachios. As for me, I want to check out Alora, a new Peruvian and Vietnamese fusion restaurant in Montrose that's getting a lot of buzz. Something about sitting on their patio and sipping one of their cocktails is calling to me! Meanwhile, City Cast Houston Host Raheel Ramzanali will be chowing down on crawfish at a classic Houston spot, Crawfish Cafe.
