July in Houston is peak summer with Fourth of July celebrations, festivals, and other fun activities happening all month long. So, what can you do this month to liven up your summer routine? I have some ideas below ☀️
The Best Ways to Celebrate Fourth of July
Grab the fam, your friends, or someone special, and head to Miller Outdoor Theatre to enjoy their free “Star Spangled Salute” celebration kicking off at 8:30 p.m. This annual celebration also features live music from the Houston Symphony and a dazzling fireworks display at 10 p.m. Over at POST Houston’s rooftop, you can take in the downtown skyline’s sweeping beautiful views and cirque performers, balloon artists, and fireworks for $20 starting at 5 p.m. The city’s annual celebration Freedom Over Texas at Eleanor Tinsley Park is also a must-see party with music from a variety of artists, including country star Russell Dickinson. I also recommend cooling off at one of Houston’s hotel pools or spending the day at El Segundo Swim Club in East End.
The Best Free Activities in Houston
Did you know that Port Houston offers free educational cruises along the Houston Ship Channel? Make sure to make reservations at the start of each month before it gets booked up. Grab your early bird complimentary tickets to Houston Soul Food Festival, where you can enjoy delicious soul food plates, live music, and shopping on Saturday, July 6. Take a quick day trip to Galveston for their season ArtWalk, so you can meander through local art galleries, studios, and businesses starting at 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 13. Celebrate 713 Day with food and live DJs at Social Beer Garden’s party.
The Best Activities With Air-Conditioning
Are you looking for ways to beat the heat this month? Cool off with a game of indoor mini-golf at Puttshack and order cocktails to drink as you play. For the book lovers, check out LIT bookbar, a bookstore that also sells delicious cocktails in Fort Bend. The Houston Public Library has free events happening all month long, including a screening of “Oppenheimer”, board game hangouts, and teen craft time. Go roller skating with your family or friends at Dairy Ashford Roller Rink or during Funplex’s adults-only nights on Wednesdays and Fridays.
