There are two kinds of bobcats native to Texas: the desert bobcat and Texas bobcat. Bobcats are usually twice the size of a domestic cat, weighing between 15 and 25 pounds. The desert bobcat is found in the west and northwest part of the state, but Texas bobcats can be spotted throughout the state. Let’s learn more.
Superb Eyesight
Bobcats have outstanding day and night vision. During the daytime, their pupils retract in size, reducing to thin vertical slits to block out the bright sunlight. At night, the pupils open wide, so they can see clearly. They also have color receptors in their eyes that allow them to see fine details and detect movement. Their perfect eyesight makes them better hunters because they can notice even the slightest movement from their prey.
Bobcats in Houston
Sometimes, bobcats wander through creeks, ditches, bayous, and fields and are spotted in Houston and surrounding suburbs. They also may be intrigued by a yard with small animals, domestic birds, shade, and water. Bobcats can become aggressive if you try to corner them, so be careful. Do not feed them and call 311 if the bobcat starts behaving dangerously.
