So, I know last week’s weather looked bleak. We’re not used to having so many sunshine-less days. However, over the weekend, when the sun returned and I watched people walking and jogging around my neighborhood, it felt like spring was just around the corner. Kelsey Low, adult programs manager at Houston Arboretum, confirms my hunch is right.
Last week, Low noticed this dewberry flower blossoming despite the cold and gray skies. She writes, “Don’t be fooled by the cold – spring is on the way! Everywhere you look there are signs: flowers like this Dewberry are beginning to bloom, birds are starting to sing, and everything from turtles to coyotes are out searching for places to nest.
“This is the start of the restless season, an explosion of energy after the quiet of winter. Experiencing the transition from dormant gray to exuberant green is one of the greatest pleasures of a temperate climate. It’s a great time to get out and explore!”
