If you’re trying to spot a Green Lynx spider this summer, you may miss it because it easily camouflages into greenery. The spider is usually found in the southern part of the country. Their name lynx comes from the way they pounce on their prey, similar to a cat. These spiders are also hunters who love to camp out on plants.
Kelsey Low of Houston Arboretum writes:
“In the natural world, green is gold. Being green lets you hide against leaves and stems, like this Green Lynx Spider that gave me a fright as I leaned in to look at a flower. The spider can sneak up on its prey and escape the notice of its own predators – as long as it sits still.”
