Are you like me and still have your Christmas tree up? I worked hard to decorate it and get it perfect, so I kept it up a bit longer this year. However, now it’s time to take it down and fully embrace 2024. So, where can you recycle your Christmas tree and holiday lights?
How To Recycle Christmas Trees
- Drop off your live tree at one of the City of Houston’s 23 drop off locations through Jan. 26.
- There are drop-off locations across the city, but also out in the suburbs such as in Katy, Arcola, Richmond, Conroe, Freeport, and others.
- Make sure to remove all lights, wire, tinsel, ornaments, nails and stands from the tree. Recycling is not available for artificial, flocked, or painted trees.
- You can also recycle your Christmas tree at home. Make sure to check when yard waste pick-up is for your neighborhood.
- Surfside Beach is also accepting old Christmas trees.
How To Recycle Holiday Lights
- Drop off your old holiday lights at South Post Oak Recycling Center in exchange for cash. You can recycle there until Jan. 13.
- Goodwill Houston also accepts holiday lights and decorations.
- There are also recycling centers across the city that will accept holiday lights. Do not put holiday lights in your city curbside recycling bin because it can cause issues at local recycling facilities.
- Houston Zoo also accepts old holiday lights, but we missed the deadline for this year. Bookmark them for the next holiday season!
Did I miss any other recycling drop-off locations? I want to know.
