The first month of the new year is often an ambitious time to reflect and reset from an indulgent holiday season. An increasing trend this time of year has been Dry January, which has been elevated to cultural phenomenon status. Many benefits have been touted, from varied health improvements, saving money after a spendy Christmas season, and possibly psychological benefits.
But let’s be real, cocktails are so delicious, and we work hard dangit, so we deserve a night out at the local cantina with our friends. So when you don’t want the alcohol but still want the experience, scan that menu for the mocktail, spirit-free, and nonalcoholic sections. To get you started, here are some of our recs around H-Town for your Dry January.
Come for the adorable patio with fire pits and swing chairs, and stay for the delicious spirit-free beverages, like the tart and refreshing Gone Fishin’, made with Lyre’s nonalcoholic Dry London Spirit, Lyre’s Italian Orange, lime, orange, and Italian cherry.
Try the Ocean Water mocktail at their Westheimer and N Shepherd locations. This nonalcoholic drink packs in the healthy, with blue spirulina (also referred to as blue-green algae) and hydrating coconut, plus lime juice and Topo Chico. You can also add CBD or THC for some extra fun 🙃
If you’re craving an espresso martini that is more espresso and less martini-esque, head to this posh New American restaurant to sip on their Sardoodledom zero-proof cocktail made with star anise citrus, tonic, and of course, espresso. They also have five other mocktails for just $10.
For sipping on something cute with your pad thai, try the Hua Hin Mango, made with nonalcoholic tequila, mango puree, lime juice, club soda, and a Thail chili rim. They have two other mocktails flavored with pineapple and Thai basil.
