April in Houston is one of the most gorgeous times of year in the city. So, how can you celebrate Earth Day and the upcoming Solar Eclipse? Keep reading to see how you can have fun in the sun with tips from the City Cast Houston team.
How To Celebrate the Solar Eclipse
- Houston will only get a partial view of the solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, but nearby Texas cities will get a full view. City Cast Houston Host Raheel Ramanzanali, who is taking a quick road trip with his daughter, recommends following NASA’s Eclipse Explorer to get your best view in a nearby city.
- If you don’t want to leave Houston, head to the Total Solar Eclipse Celebration at Space Center Houston. Their three-day celebration starting on April 5 will include a live mural painting inspired by the phases of the eclipse and other hands-on activities for all ages.
What To Do On Earth Day
- If you love volunteering on Earth Day like Raheel and his family, then I suggest checking out Hope Farms’ Earth Day Festival on Saturday April 6. Volunteers will plant trees, pollinators, and spread compost and mulch.
- Celebrate Earth Day at Discovery Green’s free art-focused festival on Saturday, April 20. Enjoy live art demonstrations, live music from Houston band Jukebox Trainwreck, petting zoo, and documentary short films.
- Houston Arboretum will host an Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 27. Take in the Arboretum’s stunning beauty and participate in a scavenger hunt, learn about animals and plants, and dive into interactive crafts and activities.
Other Fun April Activities
- I want to attend the FoodieLand festival coming to NRG on April 5. This family-friendly festival, with tickets for only $6, will feature diverse cuisines, live music, and more than 150 vendors.
- The Riot Comedy Festival starts on Thursday and will feature more than 50 performers and a huge street carnival.
