Believe it or not, we have entered the holiday season! Whether this is your favorite time of year or you need some extra holiday cheer, Houston shows out during this season with dazzling lights across the city. Here are some you need to check out.
Strolling Through Downtown
There’s something magical about walking through downtown during the Christmas season. This year, they have 11 unique themed villages that you can visit and take pictures. Some of the stops include decorated trees at the George R. Brown Convention Center, a chocolate-themed display at the Hilton Americas, free Christmas music on Fridays and Saturdays at Trebly Park, and Mistletoe Square at Market Square Park. If you don’t want to walk, take the Holiday trolley on Friday and Saturday nights to visit all the villages.
Houston
Zoo Lights
During this popular holiday tradition, the Houston Zoo opens up nightly to show off dazzling displays and lights. While you’re there, check out their Enchanted Forest and Holiday Grove with animal-themed lanterns. Some tips: You can bring outside food and non-alcoholic beverages into Zoo lights, so pack accordingly. However, if you want to sip on hot chocolate or snack on s’mores, you can add it to your order when you purchase your Zoo Lights ticket. Enjoy!
Magical Winter Lights
For my suburban folks, I haven’t forgotten you! Magical Winter Lights has opened at Katy Mills Mall for the first time. At this dazzling holiday display, you can participate in interactive exhibits, walk through lit up tunnels, and gaze at holiday sculptures. There’s even a space-themed section in honor of the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11’s landing on the moon.
River Oaks Lights
How can I mention holiday lights without spotlighting River Oaks? Your holiday won’t be complete without walking or driving through Houston’s fanciest neighborhood to admire all of their holiday lights. Some tips: This is a very popular tradition in Houston, so it gets packed pretty quickly. Go early on weeknights right when the sun sets at 5:00 p.m. to avoid too many people. If you’re looking to change up this holiday tradition, book a bus tour through the neighborhood using Houston History Bus.
So, where is your favorite place to see holiday lights in Houston? I want to know!
