Houston's Best Movie Theaters To Enjoy This Summer

For me, the perfect way to spend a summer evening is grabbing a blanket or a lawn chair and watching a movie outdoors. Houston has some great movie theaters to enjoy, too! Let’s take a look.

The Best Drive-In

The Showboat Drive-In in Hockley is about 40 minutes outside of the city, but it’s worth the trip. Pay only $10 to see two back-to-back movies inside your air-conditioned car. For example, this week you can catch a double-screening of The Flash and Spiderman Across the Spider Verse or Elemental and The Little Mermaid. Bring your own snacks or buy some from their snack bar. If you don’t want to drive out of Houston, check out Moonstruck Drive-In in East Downtown that premieres new movies and is open seven days a week.

The Best Rooftop

If you want beautiful, sweeping views of Houston’s skyline and unlimited popcorn, then you’ll need to head to Rooftop Cinema Club in Uptown. This is my favorite outdoor movie theater spot because of the diverse range of movies and tasty food. This month, watch a range of films, including “Steel Magnolias,” “Love Jones,” “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” “Scream,” “Sleepless in Seattle,” “Clue,” and more.

The Best Lawn

In our city, you’ll easily find a lawn to watch a free outdoor movie. Levy Park, which hosts movie nights every last Friday of the month, is showing “Moana” next Friday. Trebly Park, a new park downtown, will have a screening of “The Parent Trap” on Thursday. Make sure to check The Menil Collection’s schedule for their free film screenings on their beautiful lawn. Finally, Discovery Green and Market Square Park also often have free screenings.
