The Best Free Fall Festivals in Houston

Whether the temperatures feel like fall or not, Houstonians are ready to embrace every aspect of the season! To take in all the fall fun, head to one of Houston’s many free fall festivals. Below, I have suggestions with help from Meagan Clanahan, co-owner of HoustonMom.com.

The Best Festivals for Pumpkins

Pumpkins are a staple of the fall season. So, where can you go for your pumpkin photo opp? Check out the Houston Farmers Market, which has a pumpkin patch and other family-friendly activities every weekend in October. Later this month, on Oct. 24, grab your kids, put on your best costume, and join in on The Great Pumpkin Hunt in Bellaire. Your little ones can hunt for toys, candy, and prize-filled pumpkins!

The Best Festivals to Celebrate the Season

Want to venture outside of Houston? Take your whole crew on a road trip to Chappell Hill for their annual Scarecrow Festival on Oct. 12 and 13. Enjoy historical tours, live music, and, of course, scarecrows! If you have little ones, you won’t want to miss the KBR Kids Day celebration at Buffalo Bayou on Oct. 19, which will include pumpkin carving, a rock climbing wall, nature activities, dance performances, and more. Before we close out October, check out Galveston’s two-day Oktoberfest with German food, rides, and games.

The Best Non-Fall Festivals

Do you want a break from the fall aesthetic? Check out the 15th Annual Korean Festival, one of the largest free cultural events held at Discovery Green on Oct. 12 and 13. Immerse yourself in Korean culture with live performances, arts and crafts, and delicious food. For the book lovers, attend the Author Indie Book Fair in Katy, which will highlight the work of 100 independently published and self-published authors from Texas. We also have tons of other fun suggestions, like the Pakistani Literature Festival, in our October guide.
