We’ve made it to August, which means it’s time to savor the last days of summer before it’s back-to-school. Whether you want to a new adventure with the kiddos, check out an exciting play, or eat a delicious meal on a budget, I have some insider tips to jazz up your last month of summer ☀️
The Best Ways to Soak Up the Last Days of Summer
Grab your crew and a blanket for live performances of “Henry V” and “As You Like It” during the 51st Annual Shakespeare Festival at Miller Outdoor Theatre starting tonight. There’s something magical about watching a performance on the lawn as the sun sets 🌅 Meanwhile, I absolutely loved the Alley Theatre’s rendition of “Agatha Christie’s The Mirror Crack’d” where an entertaining cast of characters tries to solve a thrilling murder mystery. Houston Restaurant Weeks kicks off Friday, and this is TOTALLY worth the hype because you get to enjoy delicious meals at a great price from some of our best restaurants all month long.
Family Adventures
Want to jazz up your summer routine with the kiddos? Check out children’s bingo at Levy Park, happening every Thursday at 4:30 p.m. City Cast Houston host Raheel Ramzanali loves cheering on the Astros in August, and right now you can find great deals on seats. Celebrate the end of summer with a free screening of Monsters University at Helix Park in the Texas Medical Center on Aug. 22.
Other Fun Happening Around Town
Salsa the night away with your boo or friends, enjoy a screening of “Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights,” and sip on Latin-inspired cocktails at Houston Museum of Natural Science’s Mixers & Elixirs: Latin Night on Aug. 15. I’ve been seeing this all over my TikTok and can’t wait to check it out! Sneak in one last beach getaway, and check out the Galveston Island Wine Festival over Labor Day weekend. If you’re staying closer to home, groove to R&B tunes and try a new plate from one of Houston’s best food trucks during the R&B Food Truck Festival on Aug. 30.
