April in Houston means outdoor festivals, celebrating Black Restaurant Week, and fun events happening across the city. So, where should you go to soak up our gorgeous weather, eat some delicious food, and take in all the spring festivities? Let’s dive in!

The Best Outdoor Festivities

First of all, who wouldn’t want to feast on barbecue from over 30 of Houston’s best barbecue restaurants? Grab your tickets for the 12th Annual Houston Barbecue Festival on April 6! I can’t talk about outdoor celebrations without highlighting the annual Houston Art Car Parade & Festival on April 12. Gather your crew to experience this one-of-a-kind event featuring over 250 intricately decorated cars on Allen Parkway. Then, get your groove on at the H-town Blues Festival on April 18 with talented blues artists from all over the country. City Cast Houston Producer Carlignon Jones recommends the Big Blanket Super Picnic on April 19, where you can hang with other Houstonians on a ginormous blanket and enjoy outdoor activities, free crafts, and tasty food.

Celebrate Black-Owned Restaurants

Did you know it’s Houston Black Restaurant Week until April 13? You can support Houston’s Black-owned restaurants and get some amazing deals! Stop by Dandelion Cafe’s newest location in the Heights for a mouth-watering brunch and discounts on their mimosas, pancakes, and steak and eggs. If you’re like City Cast Houston Host Raheel Ramzanali who has never been to Lucille’s, then you need to get there stat! Right now, they have a $25 lunch deal, including some of their classic dishes like the Yardbird, catfish and grits, and fried green tomatoes. Another great option is Davis Street at Hermann Park, a Southern fine-dining restaurant that offers a budget-friendly feast over the next few weeks. Their $55 dinner menu includes three courses. Some of the drool-worthy dishes include: New Orleans-style barbecue shrimp, grilled pork chop, and the kimchi collard greens. Yum yum!

Family Friendly Events

Check out the free Neighborhood Community Day at The Menil Collection for art, music, poetry, and other activities on April 5. Celebrate Earth Day with the whole family at the Houston Arboretum’s nature-filled celebration, which will include photography, poetry, hiking, and other crafts and activities. Grab your whole crew on April 20 for the Third Ward Annual Easter Block Party where you can enjoy an Easter Egg hunt, face painting, and live music. Finally, enjoy free jazz concerts all month long on Sunday afternoons at Discovery Green

as part of Jazzy Sundays. I know, I definitely want to check it out 🎶
