Today’s the big day! If you’re heading out to the polls today, here’s where to go, what to bring, and what else you need to know. Plus, some tips on what to do while you wait for results.
Where Can I Vote?
- Polls are open today from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. Click here to find your closest polling location in Harris County. If you live in a county other than Harris, then check your polling location here.
- Before you vote, double-check to make sure you’re registered here.
What Do I Need?
- Bring your driver’s license or other approved photo ID. If you don’t have an approved photo ID, bring a voter registration certificate, U.S. birth certificate, current utility bill, paycheck, bank statement, government check or another government document that has your name and address on it. You’ll also be given this form to fill out at your polling place.
- You can bring a sample ballot or handwritten notes, but electronics are not allowed in the voting booth. So no, you can’t check notes on your phone.
- If you have a disability and need help voting, you can bring someone to assist you at the polls or two election workers can also be assigned to help you. You must notify the presiding election judge at your polling place. You do not have to show proof of your disability. Your assistant will take an oath and sign paperwork that they’re not forcing you to vote or persuading you to vote a certain way.
- Curbside voting is also available to those with physical disabilities.

- Turn off social media and go for a walk at Hermann Park and grab a quick bite at Ginger Kale.
- Discovery Green is offering nightly guided meditations all week to decompress.
- Tune out the election noise with a rom-com or indie movie at River Oaks Theatre.
- Houston Museum of Natural Science is free and open late on Tuesdays, and is a great place to escape Election Day stress.
- Take advantage of freebies: Lyft and Uber are offering 50% off on rides up to $10 to the polls. Krispy Kreme is giving away a free glazed donut to anyone who visits on Election Day. Many Houston restaurants are also offering freebies and discounts all day, such as a free slice of pizza at Home Slice and half-priced smash burgers at Jethro’s.
