Gemini Quintos will make you laugh until you cry as stepsister Grace in Theater Under The Stars’ production of “Cinderella.” Quintos, whose passion for acting began in elementary school, has also starred in other local productions including “Rent” and “Sweeney Todd.” Besides acting, Quintos runs the Texan wear clothing store, Sam & Davy, alongside her family.
What sparked your interest in acting?
“My music teacher in the first grade heard me sing and she told my parents, ‘She’s really good, you need to take her to this manager.’ My parents had no idea. They didn’t know anything about the industry. They dressed me up like I was going to a pageant. They had me read like a McDonald's commercial or something. Right after, they came to my parents and said we’d love to sign her, [but] just so you know, when we send you out on auditions, she should look like a kid.”
What’s your favorite song to perform in Cinderella?
“A Lovely Night” is my favorite song to perform in the show. It happens right after the ball. It’s that post-party energy. You get home from a party, and you’re on that high. So, mom, stepsisters, and Cinderella all get to sing together. It’s one of those moments, where we can’t help but connect with Cinderella, despite ourselves. From our perspective, she’s just imagining being at the ball, but we’re getting reeled in. We all have a moment of enjoying each other. It adds complexity to our characters.”
What can we expect at your family’s store in The Heights?
“[They can see] Houston-inspired, Texas-inspired apparel. It really started because of my husband. He’s a die-hard Houstonian, Texan, always trying to rep. We used to travel a whole lot, especially internationally, he would always want to rep Houston [or] Texas in some way. He wanted to dress nicely. He didn’t want it to be a gift shop T-shirt, or a sports team shirt. It grew from there. We’ve since had collaborations with professional sports teams. ”
Make sure to snag your tickets to Cinderella, which is running at The Hobby Center, through Christmas Eve.
