After you admire the stunning artwork at The Museum of Fine Arts Houston, you can dine at their exciting and delicious French restaurant, Le Jardinier. Michelin-starred Chef Alain Verzeroli with the global hospitality group The Bastion Collection helped create Le Jardinier concepts, which has locations in New York, Miami, Houston, and Geneva, Switzerland.
What’s one of your favorite dishes to make?
“For me, as a chef, everything’s interesting to cook. I have the pleasure of not being allergic to any ingredients, so I have the whole world of possibilities in front of me. Of course, I still have some favorites. For me it would be the vegetable world as a whole. I think the possibilities are infinite in terms of cooking vegetables. I spent 18 years in Japan and I was very close to the variety of seafood. It’s really something I love because you can apply so many different techniques. I also love, of course, French cooking.”
What’s one of the hardest parts of your job?
“I’ve realized that unfortunately even if you’re making a great effort, every chef cannot please everyone. You can please a lot of people, but today it’s difficult to fulfill the expectations of everyone. When we’re creating a dish, we want to please the customer. We want to put on the plate, our creation, our approach. A dish should be logical, but still exciting.”
What’s your favorite neighborhood in Houston?
“[The Museum] district, where Le Jardinier is located. Everytime I’m going there, almost every day I go around Rice University. It’s beautiful. It’s green. The trees are majestic. I love the houses. You have beautiful architecture. I love spending hours and hours walking from one district to another because you can see different neighborhoods, and experience a different type of restaurant.”

Meanwhile, we know Houston’s food scene is amazing, but why don’t we have any Michelin-starred restaurants?
