This week, we’re chatting with another member of our City Cast Houston team. Meet producer Carlignon Jones, whose love for audio storytelling surprised her in college.
Q: When did you first feel that spark for podcasting?
I first became interested in audio when I was a kid because my dad was a musician. So, audio work has always been in my life. The podcasting part came when I went to journalism school at The University of Texas at Austin. They forced me to take an audio storytelling class. I didn’t want to take it at first because I was set on the idea of doing TV broadcasting, but once I got into the class I excelled at it. By the end of the semester, I was one of the only students asked to have one of my audio stories published by the school radio station. So, I guess my true love for it started in that classroom.
Q: What’s your favorite part of being a producer for City Cast Houston?
I get to work in an environment that allows me to be creative daily. My coworkers are always encouraging me and making me feel confident in what I do. We get the pleasure of creating something new and fresh every day that’s important to our local community. That’s something I see as a blessing!
Q: What’s one of your go-to spots to grab a bite, and why should we try it? We know it’s not a pizza place based on yesterday’s podcast episode. 😉
My favorite go-to spot to grab a bite would probably be Crafty Crab. It’s some of the best boiled seafood I’ve had in Houston! If you go in, get your food in the boom sauce. It's life changing!
