This is a sponsored interview in partnership with Tecovas as part of City Cast Houston’s Rodeo Week.

We spoke with the Houston Area Manager of Tecovas, Mary Martinez, about the custom boots and Western apparel available at their stores, what it's like to work for Tecovas, and the elements of an ideal rodeo outfit.

What makes shopping at Tecovas so unique?

“I love that we offer a variety of styles for everyone. So whether it's your first day wearing a pair of boots, or you've been wearing them for 30 years, we have something for you. When [City Cast Houston podcast host] Raheel Ramzanali came in, he said, ‘I'm not really a cowboy, I don't really dress western.’ So I said, let's find something you feel comfortable in. We got him a pearl snap shirt, we got him some jeans, and a cowboy hat to go along with his boots. It was really fun. It's all about making Western accessible for everyone. We have boots for the city cowboy, and we have boots for someone who's working on the ranch every day. It's just really how you Tecovas.”

Where are Tecovas’ locations in Houston, and what can people find there?

“We have three locations in Houston, at Rice Village, City Centre, and one store in the Woodlands. What I love about all of our stores is how welcoming they are. We offer boot shines, complimentary drinks, and custom boot fittings. You can also customize your boots with branding or hot stamping. So, it's truly a one-of-a-kind experience when you come in. There’s always something new and fun, and you get to make these really unique personal connections that I've never really experienced in another job before.”

What’s the ideal rodeo outfit this season?

“I am a born and raised proud Texan, and I've been going to the rodeo since I was a little girl. I just love the energy that it brings to the city, it is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. If you've never been, I definitely recommend it. My ideal rodeo outfit always starts with the right pair of boots. And, like I told Raheel, you just cannot go wrong with jeans, a classic pearl snap shirt, and a cowboy hat.”
